Accessibility at Highland United Methodist Chuch

Highland United Methodist Church's accessible entrance is on the Memorial Parkway (east) side of our building, across from Highland High School's Gymnasium.  There is a designated drop-off space at this Fellowship Hall entrance, and a power-assisted door leading into Fellowship Hall.  Our elevator is located at the opposite corner of Fellowship Hall from the accessible entrance.  It provides access to all three levels of our church complex.  We have two, accessible restrooms on all three levels.  Our sanctuary has designated wheelchair seating spaces on both sides.  All interior doors are 36" wide and interior stairs have been replaced with ramps.

Making accessibility improvements to buildings built in 1900 and 1924 is difficult, as accessibility was not an issue when they were designed.  Both of the main entrances to our facility are significantly above grade, with flights of stairs leading up to them.  Consequently, the Fellowship Hall entrance was the only entrance providing grade access to our church.  It has been our goal to have a facility that is welcoming to all people, and we have made accessibility a priority.
